COMPANY INTRODUCTION

Towa Kanbutu was established in 1977 for the sale of agricultural and marine dried foods primarily to the food service industry.
The company has grown steadily together with the expansion of the food service industry.
In recent years, it has broadened its sales channels to nationwide food processing, school and office meals, and for overseas export.
It is diversifying its product line-up to meet diverse needs around the world.
Hereafter, Towa Kanbutu will proactively develop and propose KANBUTU (dried food) not only for the domestic Japanese market,
but for a global market. We endeavor to continue to grow as a company that consumers can trust.

TOWA kanbutu INTERVIEW

  • “Departure from Conventional Sales” Hashimoto, Sales Division

When an existing client suffered a loss due to the coronavirus pandemic, I supervised the production of a new product that we sold in a YouTube video. The public response was big and I felt this new sales channel had great potential.
We came across a light at the end of a long and difficult tunnel in the coronavirus pandemic by departing from our usual sales method.
We develop and sell products under the slogan “Customer Smiles” rather than being a captive to the conventional dried foods genre.
It is our mission to have many more people understand the virtues of KANBUTU (dried food). We believe it has the power to save the planet.
As this project has just gotten under way, I intend to continue developing it and expanding our user base.

  • “Visiting Nationwide Culinary Facilities” Matsunaga, Sales Division

Towa Kanbutu was for me my first foray into the job of sales.
After undergoing training for a certain period of time, I took my first solo business trip to Ehime Prefecture.
At the time, I did not have detailed knowledge of our products so when I was unable to reply to a question from a customer for specific information on our dried foods, I remember sweating like a pig! Did I narrowly escape death as a salesman?Months passed,I am now working in a way that I could not have imagined back then with so many junior staff.
We primarily supply our products through nationwide sales channels for school lunches.
I go around the country visiting culinary facilities to propose products and get ideas on developing products.
If a user praises the products of our company, this is when I feel fulfillment from my job.

  • “Making New Fans Around the World” Ozawa, Sales Division

Our business model thus far has been dedicated to sales to businesses and we have continued to introduce new products into the existing market.
However, we are currently affected by external factors, so expanding our exports is indispensable for us to become a cherished company.
Since 2020, I have been placed in charge of exports and have worked like mad to make approaches to overseas customers.
My efforts have led to the start of business dealings little by little, giving me firm faith that KANBUTU has a place in the global market.
I want to offer the people around the world the same peerless value that this company has cultivated since its founding.
I hope to make new kanbutu fans around the world.

  • “Work That I Do with the Customer in Mind” Yokoyama, General Affairs Division

For us in the General Affairs Division, tasks such as the inputting of sales slips or inventory management tend to be routine work.
However, we perform our jobs mindful of the words in our Credo Card: “Try to understand the point of view of the other person.” We do this while considering ways in which customers may be troubled, such as, “Would I be happy if treated this way?” or “Should we convey this as well to avoid problems?” Only rarely do we have chances to see the satisfied faces of our customers, but when our sales staff passes along to us customer comments such as, “It was a great help for us when you did that” or “Thank you for always handling things so well,” we feel our efforts are worth it and that our work truly is for our customers’ benefit.

  • “Discovering Ways to Enjoy the Work” Motosugi, Production Division

I think about how I can incorporate gaming elements into my work.
For example, I incorporate a time trial factor into repetitive work to compete with past records. But there are limits to simply moving my hands faster, so I try to come up with short cuts. But it won’t do to increase my speed at the expense of making more errors. So not making errors is a presupposition.
There are times when you get bored doing the same work, so I think of ways to challenge myself to keep my job interesting.

  • “Providing Safe and Reliable Food to the Kids” Kawata, Production Division

Since joining the company, I have been in charge of sorting the Kiriboshi Daikon (dried radish strips).
This sorting work was a first for me, but as a mother of two children, when I learned that the products I sorted and screened would mainly be used for school lunches, I engage in my work keeping in mind that I am providing safe and reliable meals for the kids.
I place importance on communicating with my colleagues on a daily basis by sharing information and am mindful to raise the precision of the sorting work. Sorting is behind the scenes work before the product is prepared into a meal, but it is very important and worthwhile work.
Without forgetting this basic mindset, I will devote myself to do good work on a daily basis to deliver products of benefit to the customer.

  • “Work that I Feel is Worthwhile” Kodama, Production Division

I had no experience in dried foods work so started from a blank slate. I was anxious at first, but thanks to my co-workers’ patient and measured assistance, I gradually got used to the work.
We decide on a target for the year, and do our work while thinking of ways to clear our monthly quotas. I derive a sense of satisfaction by meeting these goals. The advice and kindness of my co-workers is a major motivational factor for me and makes my job rewarding.
I appreciate being in such an environment and strive to attain new goals.
